Study Program Reflection Report: Japan Study Program (July 12–26, 2026)

Participating in the Japan study program was a valuable experience that allowed me to improve my Japanese language skills, learn more about Japanese culture, and gain a deeper understanding of Japanese society and education.

On the first day of the program, I arrived at Chubu Centrair International Airport and participated in the orientation at Ohka Gakuen University. Through the campus tour and welcome lunch, I was able to become familiar with the university environment and meet students and staff members who supported us throughout the program. The warm welcome from the university made me feel comfortable and excited about the following activities.

During the program, I attended Japanese language classes taught by experienced instructors. The classes helped me improve my communication skills and understand Japanese expressions used in daily life. In addition to language learning, the lessons also introduced Japanese culture, business manners, and workplace expectations. The special lectures about working in Japan were especially interesting because they helped me understand Japanese corporate culture and the importance of communication, professionalism, and adaptability in the workplace.

One of the most memorable experiences was the traditional culture activity in Arimatsu, where I learned about Arimatsu shibori (traditional Japanese tie-dyeing) and experienced aspects of Japanese culture through walking around the town and participating in a tea ceremony. This activity allowed me to see the connection between Japanese history, craftsmanship, and modern society.

During the Research Days, I had the opportunity to explore Nagoya together with students from Ohka Gakuen University and other students participating in the same study program. Visiting the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium allowed us to learn about marine life while sharing the experience with students from different backgrounds. Through our conversations during the trip,I was able to practice communication, exchange perspectives, and learn more about Japanese students’ daily lives and interests.

I also visited Osu Kannon, a historical temple area in Nagoya, with the students. Exploring the traditional streets, shops, and local atmosphere helped me experience another side of Japanese culture outside of the classroom. Spending time with Japanese students and other international students made the Research Days especially meaningful because it allowed us to build friendships and deepen our understanding of each other’s cultures.

The visit to Toyoake City Hall and the exchange events organized by the Toyoake International Relations Association were also meaningful experiences. Meeting local residents and participating in cultural exchange activities showed me the importance of international communication and building relationships between different cultures

.Overall, this study program helped me grow academically and personally. I was able to practice Japanese in real-life situations, develop a greater appreciation for Japanese culture, and gain confidence in communicating with people from different backgrounds. This experience motivated me to continue studying Japanese and strengthened my interest in future international opportunities.

I am grateful to Ohka Gakuen University, the instructors, student mentors, and everyone who contributed to making this program successful. The memories and lessons I gained from this experience will continue to influence my future studies and career goals.
